“The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience.”

This is one of the most beloved required reads ever. No one hated it when it was required in high school. I, however, was required to read another book so I never read this…until now. I think I would’ve appreciated it in high school, but I’m especially glad I read it as an adult to really understand and appreciate it.

“I think of his riddle. How do people like us take off our armor?
One piece at a time.”

A series with a final book worthy of finishing in 24 hours. Not even a full day ago had I started The Queen of Nothing and now I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes because it’s over. I know this a series I will turn to when I want a good re-read.

“We barely get any time on this planet. Do not spend it pleasing other people. Fuck politeness. Live life exactly how you want to live it so you can love the life you make for yourself.”

I started listening to My Favorite Murder when I started working a full-time job. I needed something to keep my mind busy and it helped the time pass. I’ve never been a big listener of any podcasts, but something about the balance of humor, true-crime, and a strong bond between two friends turned me into a full-fledged fan.

If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse

Have you ever been drawn magnetically to a book? You’re looking at your bookshelf, trying to figure out to read, and out of nowhere is a pull towards one specific book? That’s what happened to me with this book. One morning I woke up and decided I have to read this book and I have to consume it as quickly as I can. The magnetic pull was right. This book was amazing.

Dangerous.

Powerful.

A threat.

But I was more.

Oh sweet alien babies, I do love this world JLA has created. I don’t think there’s anything within the Lux world that I wouldn’t enjoy. The Burning Shadow lived up to my expectations after The Darkest Star and then some.

“It’s not insane to imagine that sometimes even horrible people are searching for a way out of their own darkness.”

After spending the better part of the last year moping since the release of Restore Me, I’ve been anticipating reading this. I needed answers for the excruciating cliffhanger Tahereh Mafi left us with and Defy Me had all the answers.

“Nothing is impossible…when you’re me.”

Long time, no see. Classes kicked my you-know-what this semester and I had zero time for reading. Tonight I finished my first book since January and it was a spin-off to one of my all-time favorite series: the Lux series.

If you don’t like aliens, a story that will make you grin ear-to-ear, or an author who can write leading men like it’s second nature then this isn’t the book for you.
